From the experience gathered in Soviet wars in Afghanistan and Chechnya, it was concluded that anti-infantry vehicles and main battle tanks have poor performance in mountainous and urban terrain, so the need for something faster, more maneuverable and armed with smaller caliber arose which also resulted in increased rate of fire. Development of this vehicle starts in 1998, while the first units are dispatched to Russian forces for testing during 2005. The chassis of this vehicle is that of legendary T-72 MBT. More info on this vehicle can be found online.

About the model:

Model of the vehicle comes in box with attractive, although already seen, box art (it is the same of the 1/35 incarnation of the model), and one of the new things is the additional cardboard protective box, which was ordinarily used for 1/35 scale models. The grey plastic is of great quality and good to work with. The tracks are made of plastic and come as one part each, but casted with great precision. The plastic used for tracks is softer than that of the model, so the tracks are bendable in order to easier place them, but the bending needs to be done with care. The model itself, being in the 1/72 scale, has great details up to the smallest parts which all fit in perfectly. The instruction sheet is simple and illustrative, at least on the first glance. The paint scheme is standard for this company, given in Zvezda and Humbrol paint codes. The model is excellent for all the fans of modern Russian armor in 1/72 scale.

I would like to thank Zvezda for supplying the model for review.
